The Surfboard Racks Blog

If you are in the need to get your boards off the floor and can manage some basic Bob Villa skills, building your own surf or board racks may be the way to go. I have found many articles online of people building their own racks for about half the cost.  Here are some pretty sick racks that can be built with some basic home depot supplies. Pic and supplies listed below.

Supplies and tools:

• 2 pairs of board holders (main site recommends specific ones but and kind of rack will work)
• 2 2×4′s ( you can stain or paint these to match your room)
• 4 hanger bolts
• Carpet samples for wall protection (furniture pads all work well)
• Sandpaper (coarse, medium, fine – e.g. 100, 150, 220)
• 4 1 3/4 inch screws to mount the board holders
• Enough small nails to secure the carpet pieces, or furniture pads to the top and back of the 2×4′s
• drill, hand saw, tape measure, etc.

I simplified it down a bit but you can check out all the supplies that were used and the step by step instructions by going to Kevin’s Blog. It seems he may have taken it down so if anybody wants to help with these instructions or suggest a better DIY spot. Let us know!

The first thing I noticed, when compared to other surfboard wall racks, it just how sturdy and solid this rack is. Simply screw the two screws into the wall and snap on the supporting arm to complete the installation. One of may favorite features about this rack is the fact that you easily add in other surfboard racks, which easily snap in and align with your first rack. This makes it an ideal rack for those who have multiple surfboards, as you can add or subtract as many as you want. These racks can also be used to store your snowboard, kiteboard, and wakeboard as well. Here is the expandable quad version that you can get and allows for the storage of multiple boards.

The Nice Rack is also reasonably priced at about $30 for the single version. Of course you get a discount if you order the multiple ones.

Are you looking for a good way to store your surfboards when they are not in use?   There are many different racks you can purchase if you have multiple surfboards.

You also want a multiple board holder to not only be strong but be aesthetically pleasing to the eye.  For something like this, you might have it mounted in a prominent area of you house, so you surely don’t want something that is ugly.  Simple installation is necessary also, nothing too difficult.

One such rack that fits all of the above is the Mac Racks Triple Surfboard Wall Rack, and will hold all 3 boards horizontally.  At around $90, it gets great reviews, with 5 star ratings.  It’s easy to install and takes approximately ten to twenty minutes, so you’ll have your boards up and out of the way in no time.

It’s constructed of wood so it has a nicer appearance that others that may be made of metal.   If you’re hanging three surfboards on a rack, you’ll definitely be looking for strength. No problems this is good and strong, with one review stating they store 3 boards between 9’6” and 7’4” in length.   By installing the support bases a bit closer instead of the recommended 4 foot, you can add extra strength, however it will all depend on what you are hanging.

Perhaps you would prefer to have your boards displayed on more of an angle, no problem. The Cor Surf Multi Board Rack will be perfect.

It’s also constructed of wood, stained in a dark finish, the arms are 14” in length and the racks height is around 18” tall.  This one comes with a guarantee that it won’t splinter, rot of corrode, and is reasonably priced at around $76.

There is more than one way to get your surfboard vertical!

This may be another way for some, vertical surfboard racks for you home. No other surfboard rack can match them when it comes to visual appeal. However, being low to the ground, like this surfboard rack can put them at risk for getting pretty banged up.  I have my very first surfboard in retirement sitting on a stand just like this one.

This rack is no longer sold by Hawaiian Gun Racks but their wood alternative can be found here: http://www.esurfboardracks.com/products/hawaiian-vertical-rack  as well as a ton of other nice racks.

Here is another one I really like that is designed specifically for the corner. The rack is also clear, which is nice for keeping the clean look. This rack can be found on Amazon.
